This set of home raised Black Angus Heifers all have lineage tracing back to Murray and Cam Fraser's F-R Ranch out of Hussar. Our family believes in the Fraser's philosophy of raising low maintenance cattle bred for calving ease, foot quality and strong maternal traits. We have been purchasing bulls and replacement heifers from the Fraser's for roughly 35 years now and are happy with the cow herd that we have achieved.
The bulls used on these heifers all have low birth weights and low birth weight EPD's. The bulls are what the Fraser's call "spread bulls" meaning that they have low birth weights, yet they still achieve good weaning and yearling gain performance.
This group of heifers were selected from a group 90 head that were picked at weaning time. They were backgrounded at Double M feeders east of Nanton on a light ration and not pushed. A final cull was done at the end of March before they were given their vaccination shots prior to breeding (Bovishield Gold FPS VL5). Bulls were turned out June 2 and pulled July 21 (50 days). All heifers were minimum 13 months of age at breeding.
These heifers were preg checked by Nanton Veterinary clinic on November 4, and given lvomec the same day. They have been out on grass all summer and fall with no additional feed given.
Here is a super calm set of bred heifers that are guaranteed 13 months old at exposure and will become a fixture in anybodys herd!
