BURTON CATTLE CO HERD DISPERSAL (DOUG BURTON & SHAUNA BURTON)
280 BRED COWS
- 75 3rd Calvers
- 200 4th Calvers-Mature Cows
- Majority Black with a few BBF & Red Cows.
- Bred to Reputation Black Angus Bulls.
- Bulls turned out July 5th.
- Calves weaned on October 1st.
- Given Cattlemaster FP5 & Ivomec on October 4th
- Vet letter will be available sale day.
The cows on offer are a sort from 350 head, the rest being culled and shipped. As we have not yet preg checked (to be done November 16th), I will guess at the remaining numbers. There will be approx 75 3rd calvers, with the 200+ remaining cows ranging from 4th calvers to mature. When we quit retaining our heifers, we have bought cows from herd dispersals, or gotten a few later calvers from reputation breeders. Our black bulls are from Deer River Ranching (Beasley), Flemings, 66 Ranch, Stauffer, Cudlobe, Delar Angus and Marcel Purveen. These cows will work for you. They calve on their own and any calving problems cull themselves. They are all quiet to work around, but we dont tag our calves and they spend their lives defending themselves from large carnivores; grab their calves at your own risk!
They will follow a feed truck and come when I call them, unlike the wild rascals we had 30 years ago. I handle them by myself most of the year. They are moved with horses and dogs and know that a quad or side x side brings mineral or a bucket or 2 of pellets. We only feed when we have to and cows are sorted for body condition. Most of the cows graze all winter.
