Antelope Butte Livestock Ltd (Antelope Butte Ranch)

The Lynch-Staunton family has been ranching in the Pincher Creek and North Fork (Oldman River) district of South West Alberta since 1885.  Our land is primarily native grass in the foothills of the Livingstone Range.  In addition to raising beef cattle, we have been breeding Beefbooster M1 bulls since 1984.  We have now moved beyond Beefbooster and are producing our own hybrid bulls and cattle with very stringent economically driven goals.

Our overall breeding goal is to produce low maintenance cattle that require minimal winter feeding and attention.  We want cattle that you don’t have to touch.

Our primary selection criterion is fertility.  In 2024 this group of cows had 89% calving in the first cycle.

In our breeding program we also incorporate a multi trait selection index that includes calving ease, mothering ability, weaning weight, growth, grade, yield and carcass weight.  Feed efficiency is now a major trait in our selections.  All these traits are important but not at the cost of ranch efficient maternal cattle.

The cows and heifers available for sale are our complete commercial herd.  These are cattle that fell out of our Seedstock program or were our best commercial heifers that we bred to help build the herd.  Most cows and heifers will mature at about 1300 lbs.  For those who want smaller cows in their herd there are a number of half M3 females that will mature between 1200 and 1250 lbs.

All our cows and heifers are birth date verified and the ranch and feedlot has been certified sustainable with VBP+ since the program’s inception.

Bred Heifers

Bred Cows – All cows bred to black and red Antelope Butte hybrid bulls from July 19 to Sept 4 to start calving April 30.

Health

Zoetis Bovi-Shield GOLD FP5 - prevent persistently infected calves caused by bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus Types 1 and 2 and as an aid in preventing abortion caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR, bovine herpesvirus Type 1) virus; respiratory disease caused by IBR, BVD Types 1 and 2, parainfluenza3 (PI3) and bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV); and BVD Type 2 testicular infection.

Merck Covexin Plus - prevention of disease caused by Clostridium tetani, C. chauvoei, C. septicum, C. novyi Type B, C. haemolyticum, C. sordellii, and C. perfringens Types C & D. Immunity is also provided as an aid in the prevention of diseases caused by the beta and epsilon toxins of an additional organism, C. perfringens Type B. Although C. perfringens Type B is not a significant problem in Canada, immunity is derived from a combination of Type C (beta) and Type D (epsilon) C. perfringens fractions.
